# Kiko Castellanos

> Personal website of Kiko Castellanos (legal name Francisco Castellanos Fernández), based in Tarragona, Spain. ## Systems

Kiko makes systems out of everything: building things is how he solves problems, how he thinks and even who he is. Almost without thinking about it, he has been an entrepreneur since he was 21, and he still is. Turning failures into systems that correct and prevent them is his natural tendency and his way of working. Today he designs how organizations work on the inside. He also builds his own tools, games and apps; some become businesses and others stay at home.

Currently:

- **His own consultancy** (since 2025): he helps organizations and projects understand how they work, spot what's holding them back and design systems to work better.

Before:
- **Sinsemilla Tarragona**: his first business, at 21.
- **Scumm Bar**: the first rock venue in Tarragona. He co-founded it, ran it and DJed there.
- **Camisetas Lapicerdo**: an online T-shirt shop. He did everything (design, printing, advertising, shipping) with a team of three friends.
- **El Juego de Bacco and other games**: first an online game; later, printed games and live games designed for events.
- **And more**: ten years in hospitality (from the bar to the kitchen to manager), two radio shows, a small self-publishing press, plenty of websites and events in nature.

## Research

Currently:
- **Research coordination at La Maloka**, Asociación para el Estudio de la Ayahuasca (a non-profit). Volunteer board member since 2024. With La Maloka he studies what people do after their ayahuasca experiences.
- **Member of SEMPsi**, Sociedad Española de Medicina Psicodélica (Spanish Society of Psychedelic Medicine).

Long-term research question, which links his research and his art: whether an artistic act can do part of the work now attributed to the psychedelic experience (see Art).

## Art

For Kiko, art and magic are the same thing: magic wants to change reality; art, when it is brave, manages to.

He went through Fine Arts and Graphic Design and trained in art therapy. For many years his practice has centered on symbolic acts: ritual and endurance performances, often without an audience, that work with his own unconscious material. Also installations, object-based work and even games that get people talking about what usually goes unsaid.

His long-term research question is whether an artistic act can do part of the work now attributed to the psychedelic experience. Meanwhile, he is writing a book about the years when he presented himself under another name.

## About

Kiko lives in Tarragona and has always lived several lives at once. He has been building things since he was 21.

Music has run through almost all of them: he made songs with Scream Tracker, hosted radio shows, set up a concert venue and was a DJ for many years. He has also been a guest teacher on Albert Pala's Ecstatic Dance training.

His other constant is nature. He lived off-grid for four years on two hectares of land and holds a permaculture design certificate from the Institut de Permacultura Montsant. Now back in the city, he heads to the mountains at least once a month.

In 2022 his most recent life began, the one that has changed him most and the one he'd change least: being a father.

He is a fan of Marshall Rosenberg and Monty Python, never knows what to say in an elevator, and will have a cat again one day.

Kiko Castellanos (Francisco Castellanos Fernández) vive en Tarragona y lleva media vida conectando sistemas, investigación y arte.
